An Ethernet patch cable is a meant for the purpose of interoperability between two or more electronic devices. In most cases you will need an Ethernet patch cable so that you can connect your computer to a router, switch or hub that is placed somewhere nearby. We have two types of cables available, shielded and unshielded. The category 5 often written as CAT5 consists of a twisted pair cable that is unshielded. The CAT5e category which along with CAT5 is best for use in Ethernet technology and to carry video and telephone signals. For gigabit you can use the CAT6 patch cable. If you have a fast Ethernet you can use either a CAT5 patch cable or a CAT5e patch cable. For simple wiring you should use RJ45 patch cable.
